Tap and Barrel Burger Recipe

~This post is part of a kick butt burger grill giveaway hosted by GirlCarnivore but the burger epicness is all my own.

Tap and Barrel Burger Recipe

Tap and Barrel Burger is a recipe that is sure to please your taste buds. Its like a Vermont maple tree tapper got together with a Kentucky Bourbon distiller and created the best burger. The Tap and Barrel Burger has crisp maple bourbon bacon, two kinds of cheese, fried onion crisps and a sauce made from of course maple and bourbon.

Grilling the Tap and Barrel Burger would be great but I wrote it to be simple and cooked on the stove top. Plus the night I cooked this it was raining and I didn’t want to grill in the rain! The sauce can be made the night before although I suggest you double the recipe because your going to want to keep some extra in the fridge for chicken another night.

Speaking of the sauce on this Tap and Barrel Burger, to make it the absolute best you have to use Red Duck smoked ketchup. I tried it with regular ketchup and it was still good but that smoke flavor in Red Duck makes this sauce go from good to Phenomenal.  You can find them on social media:

Maple Bourbon Burger Recipe

Ingredients:

3-4 pounds ground beef
8 slices cheddar cheese
8 slices Monterey Jack cheese
8 hamburger buns
1 large onion thinly sliced
oil for frying
Bacon Marinade:
8 slices thick cut bacon
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup bourbon
Sauce:
1/2 cup bourbon
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup Red Duck Smoked Ketchup (or regular ketchup would work)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400. Prepare the bacon marinade by stirring together the maple syrup and bourbon in a shallow dish. Add the bacon and let soak for about 15 minutes. Remove the bacon to a baking sheet with parchment paper and bake until the bacon is crisp.

In a saucepan stir together the sauce ingredients. Cook over medium heat until its reduced and thick about 15 minutes.

Heat oil in a pan on medium high until the oil is hot. Fry to raw uncoated onion until brown. remove and drain.

Shape ground beef into 8 even sized patties. Salt and pepper each side. Heat a skillet and cook burgers to your desired doneness. I cooked mine all to medium rare which was about 4 minutes on each side.

Top each side of the bun with the Maple Bourbon Sauce. Add a slice of Montery Jack cheese, the burger, the a slice of Cheddar cheese and finish it off with a pile of onion crisps along with the top bun. Serve immediately and tag me in a picture on social media. Enjoy!
