The Oregon State Fair, One Pot Beef Stroganoff  and #SundaySupper

Me on stage
Me on stage

This year I was asked to the Oregon State Fair to do a cooking demonstration. It was a bunch of new experiences for me. I had never been to Oregon, a state fair, or done a cooking demonstration.  Of course I eagerly accepted and ran around my house screaming with excitement! Yes, I get stupid girl excited too!

They have a circus at the fair!

Cool chicken I made friends with

One of the coolest things I saw at the Oregon State Fair. There were tables with lego’s and the kids could make a master piece and display it for the day!
image
The Oregon State Fair really had it all! Even a chair lift to get from one side of the fair to the other!
image
Yummy baked goodies in a cute pink mail truck!

So once I finished running around like a mad woman I began working on my recipe. I was asked to do a one pot meal or a crockpot that would be done on Family Day. They loved the Sunday Supper Movement and that I was a tastemaker, it went well with the family day at the fair.  I began testing recipes and decided to make one from a recipe I already had! I took my beef stroganoff and recreated it to be in one skillet!

Awesome woodworking right in front of your eyes! Also cake decorating, spinning and much more!

Best smoked meat I have ever had the pleasure of tasting! No offense honey!

Kids get to try out different farm tasks like pooper scooper, rope a steer, milk a cow, and more! The Oregon State Fair is made for kids to have a blast

Cool fish I met too!

I found so many stages! Here was one of them!

A robot arena! Yes for real, there were high school kids competing with robots!

Another shot of the fair

Beautiful Orchid booth

Me at the best ice cream booth! I ran a giveaway on Facebook to the Oregon State fair and this was the most popular place!

I flew out to Oregon on a Friday and got acclimated to being out there. I also got to go on a little adventure with my friend Kim from The Prize of Cooking. She took me to a wine tasting at Brooks Wine. Wow was the view breathtaking! I barely took pictures because my eyes were in awe.

After that stop we ended up going to a lovely little shop in McMinnville. It was called Third Street Oil and Vinegar. They do olive oil and vinegar tastings. At first I thought blah sipping oil and vinegar but the experience left my tastebuds excited and wanting more! One of my favorites was the wild mushroom and sage. There was no bitterness to these and the flavors didn’t taste fake. I came home and ordered some for my own kitchen. Yes she ships all the way to Florida 😀

After that we stopped by Willamette Valley Vineyards Tasting Room in McMinnville. Yum again! I even tried a chardonnay that I really liked. I don’t normally like chardonnay but theres was amazing.

So after our fun day of exploring we headed to the store to purchase my ingredients. Then it was showtime. If you follow me on snapchat you would of seen my behind the scenes photos! Below is my code. Follow along for more behind the scenes action.

I wandered around after the show and got to enjoy the Oregon State Fair! They sure do know how to throw a fair. I should know to I was conceived at a fair. My real father was a carnie and mom took off with him and got pregnant with me! Somewhere I have a picture of her sitting in the ticket booth pregnant with me. Anyways, the fair was so amazing. There were so many activities for kids to do and they were cheap or free! You could stay busy for days and not even ride a ride. I hope to be invited back next year to do another cooking demo.

So during my cooking demonstration I talked about bringing families back around the table. Eat dinner without the phones or television. No distractions at least once a week. This is what the Sunday Supper Movement is about. Its something that I practiced long before finding my Sunday Supper family but now I have lots of friends who are also promoting family dinners. Get the kids involved, make a mess, cook a fancy diner, eat it together, and cherish those memories when they are gone away!

So here is my recipe and below my recipe you will find my Sunday Supper Families recipes for one skillet meals:
