A Quick Visit to Oldest City, Saint Augustine

I recently made a quick visit to the oldest city, Saint Augustine. Have you ever been? Saint Augustine is the oldest city in the United States. Its home of so much history including the oldest school house, oldest house, a Spanish Fort and so much more!

My quick visit to the oldest city was for my daughter’s photography class assignment. She needed to shoot architecture. I decided to bring my camera along and get a few pictures also. As I already said it was a quick trip. We didn’t see nearly all there is to see and do there. We just walked a square area and went home.

My visit started at the St Augustine Visitor Information Center. This should be your first stop if you visit. There are some amazing staff that can help you with historical information and where you should stop during your visit. This is also a great spot to see some beautiful pieces of history.

We then headed toward Cordova Street and Potters Wax Museum. Continuing to head down Cordova Street we passed the Tolomato Cemetery. I don’t know about you but Cemeteries intrigue me. They are full of so much history.

As we strolled down the same street we soon came across the stunning Grace United Methodist Church.

We then turned onto Hypolita Street toward Meehan’s Irish Pub & Seafood House.

From there we headed North on US 1 too catch a glimpse of the Bridge of Lions before the Castillo de San Marcos came into view. If you haven’t toured it I highly suggest you do. The Castillo de San Marcos is full of so much history.

A turn down Cuna Street led to the Crucial Coffee Cafe.

Then another turn down St George Street and directly into the Spanish Quarter. This place is alive and buzzing with so many shops and restaurants. You can almost picture the Spanish soldiers walking the streets.

The Spanish Quarter is also the home of the Oldest School house. Its another great place to tour. As we left the Spanish Quarter we walked thru the Old City Gates. We also drove down Magnolia Avenue and past the Fountain of Youth. Magnolia Avenue has the most beautiful trees.

Saint Augustine is a part of the true Florida. The one outside of the theme parks and cruises. The parts of Florida that most of us living here enjoy. Maybe you can take A Quick Visit to Oldest City, Saint Augustine or maybe you could stay a little longer!
