Homemade Macaroni and CheeseHomemade Macaroni and Cheese #Recipe

In my family I am teased for not being able to make boxed food. Mac n cheese is one of those that I cannot make. The powder kind either turns into a clumpy mess or its like soup! I gave up years ago and learned to make my own!

This recipe can be served fast like the boxed kind or baked in the oven with bread crumbs for a real treat. My homemade macaroni and cheese recipe is made with lots of real cheese, milk, and a roux to thicken it. Its a cheesy béchamel sauce.

Homemade Macaroni and Cheese Recipe

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons flour
3 cups milk
1 pound shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 pound elbow noodles

Directions:

Start by cooking the pasta to your families taste. If you plan to bake it you can cook it a little less and preheat oven to 400. Drain and set aside.

In a medium sized pot melt the butter over medium heat. Once the butter is melted stir in the flour. Cook and stir constantly for 1-2 minutes. This cooks out the flour taste.

Add the milk and continue to stir until the milk starts to warm up. At this point add your cheese. Continue stirring, you will see the cheese clump up and thats ok. Just keep stirring. Eventually (maybe 7-10 minutes) you will have a beautiful sauce. Add your cooked pasta and enjoy.

You can also place the mac n cheese in a casserole dish, top with 1/3 cup bread crumbs, and bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden and bubbly. #homemadeYUMMY
