Chinese BBQ Beef Lettuce Cups Appetizer Recipe

Chinese Beef BBQ Lettuce Cups Appetizer was created to enter a recipe contest with Serious foodie products. The spicy orange flavor of the beef with the sweet scallion salad make these a flavorful appetizer. The butter lettuce leaves make it perfect to skip utensils, so less dishes.

I used Serious Foodie Chinese BBQ Rub on a piece of skirt steak. The smell of this rub is amazing as it sears into the meat of the grill. Once cooked I had to guard the steak as it cooled to keep my family out of it! The warm spices combined with the slight heat is exceptional.

Chinese BBQ Beef Lettuce Cups Appetizer Recipe

Ingredients:

1 bunch green onions, 2-3 inch pieces, sliced long ways and placed in cold water

2 tablespoon Mirin

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1/2 teaspoon Chinese BBQ spice rub

½ teaspoon sesame seeds

1 Cup prepared white rice

1- 1 ½ pound skirt steak

2 tablespoon Chinese BBQ spice rub

1 head butter lettuce washed, and large leaves separated

Directions:

  1. Rub steak all over with the 2 tablespoons Chinese BBQ spice rub. Let sit at room temperature while you do step 2.
  2. Drain the green onions. In a small mixing bowl combine the Mirin, sesame oil, rice vinegar, ½ teaspoon Chinese BBQ spice rub and ½ teaspoon sesame seeds. Stir in green onion and place in fridge until assembly.
  3. Grill or pan sear the steak until your desired doneness. I prefer a medium rare, but this cooked a little over. Let cool and then cut into small bite sized pieces.
  4. To assemble lay flat one butter lettuce leaf. Top with a heaping tablespoon of rice, the beef and top with the scallion salad. Garnish with more sesame seeds. Serve immediately and Enjoy!
