PERFECT Corn Dogs Recipe

PERFECT Corn Dogs

My 7 year old nephew is staying with us for summer. He loves to eat kid food like chicken nuggets, hamburgers and corndogs. I don’t like to buy packaged foods. Who knows what is in there! I like to buy a quality hotdog and make my own corn dogs! These were easy to make and I froze the extra’s to warm up for lunch one day.

The batter to these perfect corn dogs is very easy to work with. Just make sure that you roll the dogs in the cornmeal. It gives the corn batter something to stick too. The touch of honey gives them an amazing lightly sweet flavor.

My family likes to eat these and have a movie night lounging around the living room! Great family night and the kids will be happy for dinner on a stick. Try them with a cheese dog that was a great treat for the kids!

PERFECT Corn Dog Recipe

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal (1/4 cup reserved)
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon pepper and salt
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 egg
1 cup milk or half and half
1 tablespoon honey
1 quart oil for frying
2 packages hot dogs
16 wooden chop sticks or skewers

 Directions:

In a medium bowl mix together 1 cup cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, sugar, and baking powder.

In a measuring cup (or a separate small bowl) mix together the egg, milk, and honey.

Begin her heating the oil in a fryer or a dutch oven on the stove. On medium high heat. Skewer each of the hot dogs and roll in the remaining cornmeal.

Now mix the dry and the wet mixtures together. I place my batter in a large kind of narrow cup to easily dip the hot dogs. These are best on frying 1 or 2 at a time. I fried mine individually. Dip a skewered hot dog in the corn batter and allow excess to drip off.

Gently place in the hot oil and fry golden on each side. Remove from oil and drain on a wire rack over a baking sheet (or paper towels on a plate). Continue frying the remainder of the hot dogs and Enjoy! #homemadeYUMMY
