Introduction to sleepovers…… plan a mock one!

Friendship is an important part of being a kid. My children are recently (we quit about a year and a half ago) homeschooled and I was concerned about friendship and socialization. We joined a few local homeschool groups and quickly met friends. We also started a Girl Scout troop that has all types of schooled girls. My youngest two are the ones homeschooled.

Z and M are 11 and 9 years old. Most of their friends are not doing sleepovers yet. We choose to have a “mock” sleepover. We invited our 12 Girl Scout friends to come over at 6pm in their pajamas. We each made homemade personal size pizzas. I also made a recipe up for the girls to each make personal size cereal treats. We stuffed those in cones for easier handling!

The girls ate, played games on the X-box and Wii. Just dance was the biggest hit Just Dance 4

. We also watched some shows and sat around gabbing away. Boy those girls can chat up a storm! We did a craft/food for breakfast. It was donut holes on a sucker stick. They were able to take them home to have for breakfast. Most ended up eating them right away.

Another part of a good sleepover is truth or dare. I decided the girls were a little young for dares. So we did truths. I wrote up a bunch of fun questions on small pieces of paper. Rolled them up and stuffed it in a balloon. Then I blew up the balloon and tied as normal. The girls all had to pop the balloon to get to their “truth”. We took turns reading them and were able to learn even more about our friends.

We always end our sleepovers on a high note…..FOOD FIGHT!!! We have quite a few food fights in our house. Last week Tarrena and I fought with flour! It was great fun! For our slumber parties we choose to use popcorn. Air popped is best for indoors as it can be thrown without getting grease everywhere. Our puppy is allergic to corn so we have ours in the front yard. The birds and squirrels enjoyed it just as much!

The girls all left by 9pm. They did everything that would be at an overnight sleepover, including breakfast. The girls all went home and slept great from the energy they exerted. I was able to sleep without 12 girls giggling all night! Mock sleepovers are a great way to introduce slumber parties to your family and friends.
