The Delano Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast, Allegan Mi: A Home away from Home
I recently ended up in my hometown of Allegan Michigan with my husband. We had an areo bed in our trunk to use at my sisters, but we didn’t want to have to use it. So we stopped by the old bed and breakfast downtown on our way to get ice cream. I had walked past it so many times as a child, always wondering what it looked like inside. The Delano Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast of Allegan Mi.
We rang the bell a little late in the evening. It was around 10 pm but there were tons of lights on. This nice woman comes down from the carriage house in her jammies (she excused herself for them and we didn’t mind) She quickly gave us a tour of the house and the available rooms. Wow, Wow, Wow!! I love antiques and all things old, this house has so many beautiful ones! My husband later asked me what my favorite piece was in the house and there is no way I could pick one. A top ten would be hard enough!
Marcia, the innkeeper, had us booked into our room in a few minutes time. Our room “the Parsonage” was very cozy. There were champagne flutes with chocolate candies in them, a wine bottle opener, candles ready to be lit (with a lighter) and more personal touches. This room to was filled with beautiful antiques.
The bed was amazing! Soft yet still firm. Plenty of pillows too! The sheets were even beautiful with an embroidery trim. A large whirlpool tub for 2 is across from an elegant fireplace. How romantic and relaxing. We stayed 3 nights in that room and then it was time to check out. We wanted to stay longer but they were booked for the 4th of July weekend! Well luck was on our side and someone canceled!
We had to switch rooms, which was fine with me, although I did so love the other one! We moved to the Chaddock room. This room has a high bed, you use steps to get into it!! No whirlpool tub in this room but don’t let that make you think its less romantic. It did have the rain shower head! This room also had champagne glasses and the fixings as the other room. One of my favorite pieces in this room was the antique mirror on the dresser!
Each morning of our stay we were greeted by Marcia with breakfast! I personally am not much of a breakfast person, but I did eat some of it, eating more each day! There was always juice and coffee on the table along with a little cup of fruit, sometimes there was pudding or whipped cream in with the fruit! We had things like cowboy bake, apple butter french toast, and a potato frittata. Also there were usually sausage links.
We stayed a total of 4 nights and 5 days at the Delano Mansion Inn. The experience was warming and comfortable. I don’t think that I ever want to stay in a hotel again! We have to make a long weekend trip to Michigan again in 8 months and we intend to stay again at the best bed and breakfast around! We are also planning a trip in 2 or 3 winters to spend a Christmas at the inn with our children. The Parsonage room and the Ashley can be adjoining rooms! Perfect for a family to cozy up and enjoy some snow! I cannot wait to enjoy the bath and fireplace at the same time
I would recommend the Delano Mansion Inn to anyone that is within a few hours of Allegan, Michigan. Also to anyone that loves the victorian time period. Its centrally located to some great activities and you can’t get better treatment that Marcia! She almost made me feel like I was in the south with her charm and hospitality! Book at delanoinn.com
